Take a Voyage through Fear and
Ignorance
Released by the Heart and Imagination of a Child This stunning play tells the true
story of the young and gifted visual artist Benjamin
Saar, a hemophiliac learning to cope with AIDS, who creates
inspired art to transform his pain and express his
understanding of life. The Yellow Boat is a
family’s journey through their son's life: a story of
inspiration. This is a story that teaches about
art and healing. Much of this production is joyous and
clownish, inventive props and multimedia integration
remind the audience of a child’s perspective. Under the direction Andrés Alcalá and with
the choreography of Robin Lane of Do Jump!, Benjamin’s
visions dance to life in vivid color sharing his
powerful, transformational messages full of hope,
compassion and life for ages 8 through 98. Presented in
collaboration with
CITE Educational Theatre.
The play features Matt Caffoni, Kurt Conroyd, Sarah Liane Foster,
Julianna Jaffe, Andy Lindberg, Lindsay J. Lucas and
Amaya Villazan. The design team: Jeff Forbes
(Light), Sam Kusnetz (Sound), Tony Fuemmeler (Stage &
Props), Katie Nowaki (Costume), Sara Rudolph (Stage
Manager). Theatrical Choreography by Robin Lane of
Do
Jump! Light Design. Original music to
accompany scripted lyrics is composed for this
production by Wade McCollum.
Through a partnership with the Child Life Specialists at
Legacy Emanuel Children's Hospital, the production will
also exhibit the artistic expressions of hospitalized
young artists.
This play is a recipient of the "Distinguished Play
Award" from the American Alliance Theatre and Education.
