ONE is
modern American Rock Musical
that illuminates the search for
personal truth in the modern day.
Inspired by the ancient Indian
story of Siddhartha and drawing
on Perennial Philosophy, ONE
weaves through the urban life of
Sid Arthur, and examines his
journey of self-definition. This
story reveals the conflicts of a
musician struggling to choose
between the path of ego or
integrity. Sid, the musician, is
faced with either chasing fame
and “selling out,” or listening
to his community and following
his inner truth. From talk shows to taxis, and into
gardens and political protests,
ONE takes the audience on a
journey with Sid through the
common places of our world,
where he interacts with eclectic
characters to find his way. ONE
evokes the human spirit and the
enduring quest for inner
understanding.
The development, production and
presentation of ONE is unique
work in contemporary American
musical theatre production. The
creation of ONE is based in an
innovative collaborative
ensemble model – a process that
honors the input of all
individuals involved in the
project.. ONE integrates
theatre, music and dance using
innovative techniques and will
feature 18 actors, with the
Brothers of the Baladi as
orchestral accompaniment. This
work is a full integration of
Eastern and Western philosophy
in theatre, choreography, dance,
music and thought. Cutting edge
and ancient staging,
choreography and dance forms are
joined; ancient Eastern music
forms, vocalizations and
instrumentation intertwine with
Western Rock & Roll to form a
distinctive musical score; the
mundane challenges and the
transcendent experiences of
everyday humanity are embraced.
ONE explores and weaves these
divergent conceptual forms.
